Early conceptual prototype
Sometimes when you create a new concept it can be hard for all parties involved to understand how to move forward. In the case of this project, we took the tack of designing directly in a coded prototype so that we could imagine the solution as it would exist in production. This was superiour to a Figma prototype because the nature of the product would include multiple pop-up windows and sign-ons, so in order to fully understand what the final experience would be we really needed to see it. Tech used in this prototype was a Firebase auth connected to a Node JS backend and a React JS front end, with generative AI graphics.
Accessible Web Components and Design Systems
Over time I have created or participated the creation of several design systems. The images shown here are from a web component system that is based on the Pearson branding at that time. The components were built from an accessibility first perspective in order to facilitate the best interactions for all users. In addition to that, subsequent projects have been developed with a token driven workflow where styles and variables in Figma were used to produce a set of CSS variables that were directly used in coding the final interactions.
Generative AI driven prototype
This was a larger scale team prototype to imagine a specific early career interaction. The prototype itself was created using a NodeJS backend with a ReactJS front end and an API connection to Chat GPT. The chatbot was contextually aware and could manipulate the page on behalf of the user, allowing for the interactions to be fluid and personal as the user progressed through the interaction. I provided coding and information architecture.
Internal tooling
As part of the effort to lead the Creative Technology team at Pearson, I oversaw and assisted in building a set of internal tools that helped to create prototypes more quickly and to fluidly track the projects that we were working on at that time. This project was in production and used by the team on a daily basis. It had integrations with Microsoft Active Directory, Gitlab, Digital Ocean, Figma and SmartSheet.
Large-scale product delivery
This was a large scale team project that my entire team supported across the product lifecycle. There were multiple prototypes built ranging from simple prototypes to demonstrate animations to full end-to-end evaluation prototypes and sales prototypes that were used to evaluate and sell features before they were actually built in production.
Early ideation and workshops
As part of my work I have led design workshops and assisted teams in ideation exercises and brainstorming. This process helps people to take what are oftentimes quite vague ideas and goals and make then into more actionable tests and concepts. I am a big believer in the prototype first way of working and have led with that method many times to create experiments and micro-prototypes that help to further define problem statements and value propositions.
Production project
This site is a personal pandemic project that I created for the fencing club that I was part of at that time. I created in a two week period a platform to support a 70 year old fencing coach who only had access to a phone and planned everything on index cards kept in a box at his club. I built it on NodeJS backend with a PostGRESQL database and a Vue JS front end.
Website Development
Another pandemic project for my fencing club, I also updated his Squarespace site, added online selling capability and updated the visual design to be more modern and visually appealing, with a special eye towards making the logo more adapable to social media. I also designed Facebook ads and worked with a marketing specialist to get the ad targeting in place.
Website Design
This is an in progress custom website design task for a local small business. I was looking to develop a logo and visual design to communicate trust and stability, without over indexing on known visual design patterns from accountants and law firms. I worked directly with the client to iterate on the concept and create something that would work for them.
